Sangria with Blackberry Brandy

August 26, 2012 in Drinks, Summer Eats, Sweets

Today was my sister’s bridal shower. We made the Ultimate Chocolate Bundt Cake, A Very Berry Birthday Cake, other various fruit salads, Asian salads and tortellini salad. But of course the cakes were very important.

To drink we had some Pineapple Punch and this.

The pineapple punch was appropriate for myself and the kids that were in attendance, and this sangria was appropriate for everyone else.

Though I couldn’t try it, the fact that everyone raved about it and continuously told me how it was too bad I couldn’t drink it, makes me think it’s delicious.

You make the fruit/alcohol mix the night before so the fruit is even more awesome to enjoy. And at the rate people ate the peaches and strawberries, I’m pretty sure it was awesome.

So. Seriously, give this a try! And when I’m no longer pregnant, I promise you, I’ll be drinking this.

Here’s how to make it!

Ingredients

  • 1 Bottle of your favorite white wine
  • 1 Lemon cut into circles
  • 1 Orange cut into circles
  • 1 Lime cut into circles
  • 1 Peach cut into wedges
  • 1 Cup sliced strawberries
  • 1/2 Cup lemonade or limeade
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar (reserve for last)
  • 2 shots of flavored brandy (we used Blackberry, though any flavor would do)
  • 2 Cups ginger ale

Directions

In a large bowl with a lid, mix together the wine, sliced fruit and brandy. Let sit overnight in the refridgerator.

Before serving, add in the ginger ale and taste. If it still doesn’t taste sweet enough, slowly add the sugar. Everyone’s taste is different. I believe we used the full 1/2 cup.

Pineapple Punch

It’s already a million degrees here in the deep South and baby/wedding showers are in full swing. The combination of those two things means it’s time to put together a good, refreshing, summer punch.

I love pineapple. Love it. So did the mommy-to-be at this past weekend’s shower. I knew pineapple had to be involved in the punch. After scouring Pinterest and the internet though, I couldn’t find what I wanted. Most recipes included alcohol (which, you know, if fine for a day out on the beach, but probably not appropriate at a venue where the honored guest isn’t allowed to drink it).

So I combined elements from several recipes and came up with the perfect mix. It’s sweet, but delicious. Plus, eating the fruit after it’s been soaking in the punch is amazing.

Here’s how you do it:
